Hooray I found a new cord and even managed to get other fancy bits and pieces that can upload onto the I-pad. And am now trying to manage this through the blogger app. I expect all you very clever people out there might be clever enough to have sorted this all out. But I figure I spend time working in the garden and a lot less time on computers.... Let me know if you use the app and if you find it easier or a hinderance.
Anyhow despite a range of blogs I had hope to talk about last week I thought I would discuss my corn instead.
Doesn't it look lovely? Well the rats, aphids and ants thought so. So in a bed 1700 x 2000 mm I managed to get 7, yes 7 cobs to take inside. The rats ate about 60% of the crop while the aphids attacked the rest. I have stripped the corn the rats started with and plan on giving them to the neighbours chickens who I am happy to let eat. I can only hope the rats starve now (wishful thinking).
I do hope your corn is doing a thousand times better than my patch at the moment. A least I now have a new patch to plant up in which is greatly exciting as I have much to add that might be pest unfriendly.
Noooooooooo, how heart breaking, darn rats. They haven't done any damage to my crops so far but they are alive and well in our compost. I tried blogger on the iPad but it didn't work to well for me so went back to the desk top. Not all clever out here.
ReplyDeleteI might just have to give it a few goes on the pad to work out all the nuts and bolts I think. The worse thing was we had some of the corn last night and it was so so tasty it seems unfair
DeleteOh, that's so frustrating! At least you managed to get some cobs, but I do understand your rat and aphid hate.
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit weird as the aphid areas seemed to make it rot. There was a smell of rot around there unless it was rat pee? Eww not worth thinking about
DeleteOh no! That's horrible - i hadn't thought of them going after corn. My rats seem to have gone into hiding (or more likely into next door to eat their crops instead)but even when they were around I hadn't though to to worry about the corn which is just starting to set cobs. I wish i had some wisdom on how to deal with them but I crossing your fingers and hoping they go away seems to work.
ReplyDeleteStrangely I think maybe there are less around now they have done the damage as I am getting beans again (but that could be because of the cooler weather). Mine were fine right up to the point that they were ripe, quite a disappointment
DeleteMy Sweet Corn is doing really well, when I'm ready to enjoy some I just go up to my local fruit shop... nice and fresh and Delicious!
ReplyDeleteWow David is lucky to be given any space for his veg. How re his Tomatoes going?
